S an Clemente, California enjoys an ideal location between the bustling metropolitan cities of Los Angeles and San Diego. San Clemente is regarded as "the Spanish Village by the Sea", due to the enduring ambiance originally created by its founder. The town and many of the buildings have a magnificent Mediterranean style, with Spanish tile roofs and clean white stucco contrasting against the rich blue of the sky and Pacific Ocean. When the town was created in 1925, it was meant to be reminiscent of the Greek Isles. Today, it still maintains this clean, warm ambiance of a world-class beach town. Additionally, it is one of the few towns within Orange County to lie on a pristine stretch of Pacific coastline.

San Clemente supports a population of approximately 60,000 residents. This represents a population increase of over twelve percent since the year 2000. The average age of a resident here is 38 years old, with an annual household income of approximately $65,000 per year. Home values here reflect the desirability of the area. At present, average condo/townhome prices are about $650,000 and range from a low of around $300,000 to a high of around $2 million. Single-family detached home prices average about $1.1 million and range from a low of around $600,000 to a high of about $7 million. Long-term rentals range from a low of around $750 per month to a high of over $7,000 per month, with an average of just over $2,000 per month.

But like many regions of the country, Southern California especially, home values have dramatically appreciated, making them a great investment for their owners. Of course, living on the water is the most prized location, and the closer a home is to the Pacific, the greater the price. The majority of residents here are employed in the retail sector. Manufacturing follows as a close second, in terms of number of folks employed. Closely behind that is the sector of professional services, the sciences and technology.

The surfing industry is perhaps one of the largest economic streams for the city. Five of the world's top surf magazines are headquartered in San Clemente. Within its boundaries, the city has eleven major surf shops, as well as more than a dozen major surf manufacturers. The Surfrider Foundation has its headquarters here. Add to that the surf schools, clothing and surfboard designers and manufacturers, surf clubs and professional surfers living in San Clemente, and it's easy to see what an integral industry this sport is to the city of San Clemente.

For those who prefer to remain on land, the city has an astounding network of trails that meander through the city and end at the beach, traversing canyons and hills along the way. These are ideal places for hiking, walking and mountain biking. At many points along the trails, you can stop and rest while enjoying spectacular coastal views, canyons, and nearby wildlife refuges.

With over a half dozen locales within the city borders, and almost unlimited possibilities in nearby San Diego and Los Angeles, golfers will have no shortage of challenging holes to play.
